Hate Crimes Hurt Us All is a behaviour change campaign from the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) and the Coalition Against Hate Crime Ireland. I led the creative development for the campaign as well as the visual identity for the umbrella group behind the campaign, the Coalition Against Hate Crime.
We worked with a photographer to capture a series of powerful portraits of people from minority communities in Ireland. We then interviewed each person to capture a quote which would feature on the final creatives. The concept focuses on the ‘ripple effect’ caused by hate crimes and how a single hate crime can impact the wider minority community.
I was tasked with coming up with a campaign brand design and logotype for this campaign and handling the creation of all the out-of-home advertising featured all across Ireland on buses, train stations and digital screens. For the launch event, we rented a gallery space and showcased the creatives in the gallery. The event was attended by the national press, the models for the campaign as well as the Irish Irish Council for Civil Liberties.
The purpose of the CAHC (COALITION AGAINST HATE CRIME IRELAND) is to promote meaningful reform of the law, policy and practice as it relates to hate crime in Ireland. For the logo, I had to adhere to strict readability and accessibility guidelines to make sure that the logo was accessible to everyone. The logo mark consists of concentric C’s to symbolise the Coalition and each C is protected by each other to show the community and togetherness that this campaign promotes.
